20 Cast Reunions That Scream Nostalgia

Sometimes the shows we love can stay with us forever in our hearts and minds. That’s why it’s so exciting whenever the casts of old, fondly-remembered favorites get back together for a reunion. It’s happened several times over the past decade, and every time the fans have loved it! Let’s take a look back at some of the best examples of our favorite actors reuniting with one another and continuing or rekindling their friendships. In some cases, these get-togethers even sparked revivals of the shows themselves!

1. Friends

Perhaps no other sitcom ever had quite the impact that Friends did. The show starred Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LaBlanc, and David Schwimmer as a group of 20-somethings in New York City, and they bounced off each other perfectly to create one of the most beloved shows in the world.

The run ended in 2004 but it lives on in pop culture, and people love that the cast are friends in real life as well. In fact, Schwimmer was such a good friend to the others that he suggested that they all renegotiated their contracts as a group: that decision made them all millionaires.

Going out on a high note

The Friends finale was the most-watched TV episode of the ’00s. And after Friends was done, the cast remained close — Aniston is even godmother to Cox’s daughter — and they reunited in 2021 for HBO Max’s Friends: The Reunion.

Sadly, though, there won’t be another reunion with the full cast. In 2023 Perry passed away at the age of 54, devastating the other five cast members as well as everyone who loved Friends. All of his sitcom co-stars were among the few guests invited to his quiet and private funeral service.

2. Back to the Future

Back to the Future remains a massive mainstay of pop culture to this day, and a lot of that is down to the talent of the actors involved. Can you imagine that movie without Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd?

We came very close to not having Fox in the movie, though. The role of Marty McFly had originally gone to Eric Stoltz, but director Robert Zemeckis changed his mind after the movie had already started shooting. Stoltz was fired and replaced with Fox: it turned out to be one of the most iconic casting choices in movie history.

Delighted to be reunited

The script was rejected 44 times: so never give up on your dreams! And four of the key members of the Back to the Future cast — Lloyd, Fox, Lea Thompson and Tom Wilson — reunited at Fan Expo Portland in 2023.

They immediately started posting pictures of the cast reunion to Instagram, delighting their fans along the way. “I love being at these FanExpo events and seeing some of my favorite people like Lea, Tom, Chris and all you #bttf heads. Heavy,” Fox wrote, while Thompson remarked, “Honestly had the best time today with my #bttf family.”
