Patrick Swayze was undeniably an icon of the 1980s. Dirty Dancing – a low-budget movie that was not expected to do well – catapulted him straight onto the A-list. And he was still immensely famous when he died of pancreatic cancer in 2009. Now, ten years on, a documentary sheds new light on his life while also introducing some shocking abuse allegations.
When Swayze was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January 2008, it seemed as though he might have been able to fight it off. At that time, the actor started on chemo and began taking vatalanib – an experimental drug. And in March 2008 Swayze’s doctor told Reuters that the actor was “responding well to treatment,” meaning they were feeling “optimistic” about his prognosis.
