These 20 Movies And TV Shows Were Hated By The Real-Life People They Portrayed

Have you ever wondered what Kim Kardashian thought of her portrayal in The People v. O.J. Simpson? Or if Mark Zuckerberg approved of his characterization in The Social Network? Well, look no further. Just know that these famous figures weren’t all happy with the filmmakers who depicted them. Yes, the 20 on-screen dramas listed below led to some fiery real-life dramas. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

20. Sarah Palin – Game Change

Game Change sparked fierce debate from the get-go. It’s a TV-movie about vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s role in the 2008 U.S. election. But before it even aired, workers from the campaign started to speak out about the flick’s purported inaccuracies. Former adviser Randy Scheunemann, for example, quipped that “to call this movie fiction gives fiction a bad name.” Ouch!

Palin herself said the film was “based on a false narrative,” according to ABC News. But HBO didn’t give up without a fight. Entertainment Weekly reported that the network insisted the movie was informed by “extensive first-person interviews with those involved with the campaign.” Not sure who to believe? Well, HBO had an answer for that, too, adding, “We hope that people will withhold any judgment until they have viewed the film.” Better dig out that missing remote, then!

19. The Versace family – The Assassination of Gianni Versace

LA is alive with glitz and glamour as the grand opening of FX show The Assassination of Gianni Versace gets underway. And for a series about a late fashion icon, who could predict anything less? But among the fine suits and gowns there’s an elephant in the room: the opinions of the very people depicted in the show. Yes, just moments before the event kicked off, the Versace family declared the docu-drama to be full of falsehoods.

Apparently, the Versaces didn’t contribute to the book that the series used as its primary source. So, as the family made clear in a statement, “[The Assassination of Gianni Versace] should only be considered as a work of fiction.” But whether formed from truth, lies or something in between, the show was certainly a hit with critics and the public alike. Just remember to take it with a pinch of salt!
